The method is to drill the hole the correct size (or very slightly under helps)

Then; thread a nut onto the bolt (or the right size and HT of course), then a washer, then a bit of steel about 7-12 inches long with a crank in the end, then finally the Rivnut so that the bolt just sticks out of the inner end.

The put the lot into the hole, next with a socket hold the bolt head and steel strip steady and tighten the nut down with a spanner until the Rivnut is set firm, do not allow the socket and steel strip to rotate while tighten or it will not work

you may need to change nut and or bolt after a few as it wrecks the threads on mine (even HT ones)
