Cycle wing stays, as per the book present a problem as the top ball joint has insufficient threat to support the cycle wing stay and the nut.  So borrowing a system from Rob Lane (I think, but thanks to who ever) I made a plate (triangular - almost) with 8mm holes.  The threaded holes that held the stone shields on the Cortina hubs are just right.  Using the ubiquitous cardboard template make the plates with holes in the correct places with 3mm steel.  The weld on the 12mm bars. the rest is as per the book.  I am told that you need to get the stays heated to red heat and then allowed to cool to prevent (reduce the chance of) cracking at the weld points.  I got the local forge to do it as I did not have the torch to do it myself.
